concenter (book list)
concenter (con·cen·ter) : Pronunciation:/kənˈsentər, kän-/ : verb 1. [with object] concentrate (something) in a small space or area. 2. [no object] come together or collect at a common center. 3. archaic bring or draw (two or more things ) toward a common center.
You may recall the posts “silenced voices” and “voces silenciadas” in which two marginalized groups of writers were featured. In the first, I relayed the post “grim realities” by Zetta Elliott at Fledgling in which Elliott has compiled a terribly small list of 2010 Middle-grade/Young adult published work by US-based authors of African descent. In the second, “voces,” I mentioned Doret of The Happy Nappy Bookseller and her compiled list of Hispanic authors of 2010 mg/ya books.
Other excellent resources: blog “CrazyQuiltEdi” and her list of Authors of Color. “Reading in Color” has this booklist w/ various genre reads!
I’ve decided it would be easier to keep a list (in alphabetical order) on its own page rather than link back to any previous posts; thus “Concenter.” As I read books from the lists, I will put a link. If you’ve read one and would like to do a post on it, email me: omphaloskepsis (at) stonhaus (dot) com.
note: my tag “concenter” should direct you to reviews of books w/ key characters and/or authors of color.
2012
need a new list, I know.
2011
2011 list as borrowed from Color Online Blog: This is an expanded list including authors of color and books featuring people of color. “I’ve compiled a list of all the 2011 YA/MG books coming out about people of color that I could find. I tried to go for some kind of order but gave up after awhile. :p. A * denotes an author of color.”—“Color Online.“
this is alphabetized by author (for my later convenient reference) so mind the publication dates for availability.
